PHOENIX — Sky Harbor Airport is set to open a 2.5-mile extension to its Sky Train people mover on Tuesday, Dec. 20, the first addition to the route since 2014.
The Arizona Republic reports the $745 million addition will connect the Sky Train to the airport’s off-site rental car center in 6 to 8 minutes, operating at 3- to 5-minute intervals. It will replace a shuttle bus system that currently offers service every 7 to 13 minutes, depending on traffic conditions. The full Sky Train route, which connects to the Metro light rail system at the 44th Street/Washington station, is 5 miles long and takes about 13 minutes.
The extension also adds a stop at a 1,600-space economy parking lot at 24th Street.
The Sky Train system uses Alstom Innovia automated equipment, operating in two- or three-car trainsets.
Cool 🙂
BUT no connection to light rail??
“The full Sky Train route, which connects to the Metro light rail system at the 44th Street/Washington station,”
You mean this?
I want to say something snarky about how long it took Chicago to rework their O’Hare people mover. But I suspect you could have better comments.
