PITTSBURGH — Rail Development Corp., the Pittsburgh-based company which includes part ownership of the Iowa Interstate Railroad and a wide range of freight, logistics, and passenger operations in South America and Europe, is the newest member of the RailPulse coalition.
RailPulse is working to bring widespread use of GPS and other telematics technologies to the freight rail industry, providing real-time tracking and other information on the nation’s freight car fleet.
“Deploying this critical technology at scale presents one of the biggest single opportunities for our industry to improve safety and service quality, and while this offers many benefits to railroads, more importantly, it offers many benefits to our customers,” Ida Posner, Vice President-Strategic Planning at RDC, said in a press release.
RDC Chairman Henry Posner III said, “RailPulse’s industry-first approach is well aligned with RDC’s culture of partnerships, and we look forward to bringing our global perspective to the coalition.”
RDC is the eighth member of the coalition. Others include GATX Corporation, Genesee & Wyoming, Norfolk Southern, TrinityRail, Watco, The Greenbrier Companies and Union Pacific Railroad.
