RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. — The Rancho Cucamonga City Council and San Bernardino County Transportation Authority have approved sale of a 5-acre property for a station for the Brightline West high-speed rail service.

The San Bernardino Sun reports the two bodies approved the sale earlier this month. While the sale has been approved, a price has not yet been decided.

“They need to control the property as a component of getting their permits and getting future funding and things like that,” said Matt Marquez, the city’s planning and economics director.

The site is adjacent to the Rancho Cucamonga Metrolink station, which would allow connecting rail service to LA Union Station, although the travel time of an hour or more by commuter rail could be an issue for the otherwise high-speed route [see “Brightline West announces partners in Rancho Cucamonga extension,” Trains News Wire, Oct. 22, 2021]. The site is envisoned as a transit hub that could also include a underground connection to nearby Ontario International Airport.
