PORT CLINTON, Pa. — The Railroad Historians of the Lehigh Valley and the Lehigh Valley Chapter, National Railway Historical Society are sponsoring a “rare mileage” excursion on the Reading & Northern Railroad on April 15.

R&N Budd Rail Diesel Cars will cover several lines. A revised trip plan includes the P&R mainline, the Mine Hill and Schuylkill branch lines, and will visit Tremont and Minersville. A stop to see restored Central Railroad of New Jersey 0-6-0 No. 113 in Minersville is planned.

Fare is $119 and includes rail fare, lunch, and photo run-bys. The train will depart from Port Clinton at 9 a.m. Tickets may be ordered by mailing a check with a stamped self-addressed to Kermit Geary, Jr., 1266 Riverview Drive, Walnutport, PA 18088. Information or questions may be directed to Geary at KGJR1554@earthlink.net.

— Updated with corrected date and email address, and revised plan for trip.

  1. The LV Chapter NHRS was running “off the beaten track” Budd RDC trips back when LV 40, now at RRMPA after being RDG and SEPTA 9163 for decades, was running for LV.

  2. This trip is on April 15th and the revised flyer lists Tremont as a destination rather than Good Spring. Another trip is scheduled on April 22nd by the L&WV Chapter and it heads toward Hazleton.

  3. Does anyone know if this is the same trip that was originally planned for April15? Look like the same itinerary.
