BRECKSVILLE, Ohio — The Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad has cancelled all National Park Scenic rides through May 1 because of erosion of a section of the bank of the Cuyahoga River, WOIO-TV reports.
The railroad will offer a National Park Flyer trip from its Rockside station in Independence, Ohio. More information is available at the railroad website.
A press release from the Cuyahoga Valley National Park says significant erosion requires emergency riverbank stabilization. “Out of an abundance of caution, the National Park Service and Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad have determined that train operations will be modified to avoid the area until the repairs are complete,” the release reads.
The erosion has brought the riverbank’s vertical drop to within 3 feet of the rail roadbed, park spokeswoman Pamela Barnes told the news site. Stabilization could take weeks as engineering work must be done first.
The railroad normally offers a 26-mile ride between the Rockside station in Independence, Ohio, to the Northside station in Akron. The area requiring stabilization is near the Boston Mill ski area, about 10 miles from Rockside.

Can at least one set of engines and cars be limped pass the location, so that trains could start on the south end and go north as far as that spot?
I hope it gets fixed – was hoping to take this ride this summer.
