DENVER — Luxury train Rocky Mountaineer is transitioning to a new name in the U.S. — Canyon Spirit — as of 2026, when it will also expand its current route from Denver to Salt Lake City as part of a three-day excursion.
The U.S. excursions have operated “Rockies to the Red Rocks” trips under the Rocky Mountaineer name between Denver and Moab, Utah, since 2021. The expanded operation will feature overnight stays in Glenwood Springs, Colo., and Moab, and will operate in addition to the current two-day excursions. The company says the new name reflects its commitment to “unforgettable train journeys through the American Southwest’s most compelling landscapes.”
The three-day excursions will launch on April 21, 2026, with one westbound departure from Denver and one eastbound trip from Salt Lake City each week. The three-day trip, including hotel accommodations in Glenwood Springs and Moab, will start at $2,123 per person, plus tax. Booking is available at the Canyon Spirit website.
“We could not be more excited to bring our Canyon Spirit train to Salt Lake City, and to expand our Rockies to the Red Rocks route further into the beautiful state of Utah,” Tristan Armstrong, CEO of Armstrong Collective, Canyon Spirit’s parent company, said in a press release. “Although the name of our train is changing, our world-class service and onboard experience will remain the same. Our family and team members all look forward to sharing the beauty of the American Southwest with even more guests from across the United States and around the world.”
The company has operated Rocky Mountaineer excursions in western Canada, where it currently operates three routes, for 35 years. In that time, it has served more than 2.3 million guests.
Moab has a tiny airport with limited service so this should help expand their market. But if one has a car in Moab there are beautiful drives up the Colorado River from Moab and in Dead Horse State Park, and more!
