SAGINAW, Mich. — Two locomotives and five cars of a train derailed on Lake State Railway trackage Sunday afternoon, Nov. 24, spilling corn into the Saginaw River, WWJ Radio reports.

The incident occurred about 1:30 p.m. Images on the Detroit News website show one covered hopper ended up on its side at the edge of the river, sending its cargo into the water; a second car also spilled train into the river.

Mark Rosner, Lake State chief operating officer, told WWJ that the company would be vacuuming the grain out the cars involved today and Monday, allowing them to be removed. The cause is under investigation, he said. Saginaw County 911 Dispatch said in a Facebook post that all railroad crossings for approximately a mile south of the incident would be blocked for several hours.
