SANTA FE, N.M. – STI-Global, Ltd., an Australian high-tech company, purchased a majority share of Santa Fe Southern Railway on October 8, according to Carol Raymond, SFS president and general manager. STI develops rail safety and risk mitigation technology.

According to Don Searle, CEO of STI-Global, acquiring the Santa Fe Southern gives the company a U.S. railroad to test and market systems that will be of value to North American railroads burdened by the costs of Positive Train Control.

The Santa Fe Southern, a former Santa Fe Railway branch line that runs from its namesake city 18 miles to Lamy, N.M., was featured in the July 2010 issue of Trains Magazine.
