PHILADELPHIA — The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority reached agreement with its largest union on Friday, averting a strike that could have begun today.
Philly Voice reports Transport Workers Union Local 234, which represents 5,000 workers, agreed to a deal including a 3% raise; pandemic bonus of up to $2,200, based on hours worked between March 15, 2020 and March 15, 2021; two weeks of parental leave at the birth or adoption of a child, and the addition of Juneteenth as a paid holiday. The union voted last week to authorize a strike if an agreement was not reached by midnight on Oct. 31 [see “SEPTA transit union authorizes strike,” Trains News Wire, Oct. 25, 2021].
The union and SEPTA board are scheduled to vote to ratify the deal on Friday.
Seems like a win for all.
