FOLLANSBEE, W.Va — Empire Diversified Energy, a holding company involved in sustainable energy and logistics, will establish a short line railroad to serve the Port of West Virginia, the company announced Wednesday.
Empire River Rail intends to be a clean-energy system and is part of the effort to make the port in Follansbee, on the Ohio River, “a full-service, tri-modal facility.” Empire Diversified Energy’s primary location is in Follansbee, where it operates the port, as well as its Eco-Industrial Complex.
“The decarbonization of ports is a prime goal for the Department of Transportation,” Empire Diversified Chief Operating Officer Bernard Brown said in a press release, “and the formation of a shortline railroad at the Port of West Virginia is a step in helping to meet that goal.”
More information on Empire Diversified Energy is available at its website.
At least they are trying!!!
It seems so counterintuitive that a WV railroad would “decarbonize.” Bizarre. That would be like Saudi Arabia importing coal.
Whatever they are using for power will be broken down and sitting around rusting away…
