NJ Transit logoNEWARK, N.J. — Service has been partially restored on NJ Transit’s Morris & Essex line, disrupted since Dec. 4 because of an accident that knocked down support poles for the route’s catenary system.

Service resumed on Wednesday, Dec. 13. Through at least today (Dec. 14), two early trains — eastbound No. 626 and westbound No. 609 — will not operate, while a number of other trains continue to be rerouted on the Montclair-Boonton Line between Denville and Newark Broad Street. Some trains will make additional stops, while some Morris & Essex trains will operate only between Hoboken and Summit. Details on the updated schedule are available here.

Work continues to complete repairs to the catenary system at Mount Tabor, N.J., that led to the service changes earlier this month [see “NJ Transit’s Morris & Essex line disrupted …,” Trains News Wire, Dec. 5, 2023].

    1. At first I thought it was spelling software that changed Boonton to Boontown but then I realised such a program would change it to “Boomtown.”

The Boonton Branch was DL&W’s freight line from Dover to Hoboken with some passenger trains. The majority of the passenger service used the electrified (3000 VDC) Morris and Essex. (NJT has changed the power to 12kV 60 Hz AC)

Does anybody know what NJT sent on the M&E that whacked all the cat poles?
