SEATTLE — Light rail service is returning to normal frequencies through the Downtown Seattle Transit Tunnel, Sound Transit has announced, following a period of single tracking for emergency repairs at the Westlake station.
The repairs, required after a ground-level construction crew broke through the roof at the Westlake station, were completed ahead of schedule. The work began April 27 and was originally slated to take two weeks [see “Downtown Seattle light rail service disrupted …,” Trains News Wire, April 28, 2023].
Sound Transit’s announcement said service would resume on both tracks through the tunnel as of this morning, beginning with trains at 10-minute frequencies. Trains should resume their normal peak-period schedule of 8-minute frequencies by Tuesday.
