REDLANDS, Calif. — San Bernardino County’s Arrow rail service, connecting Redlands to downtown San Bernardino and a connection with Metrolink commuter rail service, will begin revenue service on Monday, Oct. 24, the San Bernardino County Transportation Authority has announced.

The 9-mile, five-station route will debut with Stadler diesel multiple-unit trainsets offering service between Redlands and San Bernardino, as well as one direct Metrolink express round trip each day between Redlands and L.A. Union station. Full schedules are available here.

The Transportation Authority and Metrolink will mark the launch of the service with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Redlands-Downtown station this Friday, Oct. 21, at 10 a.m.

“The launch of Arrow signals the next generation of passenger rail service across our region,” said SBCTA Board President Art Bishop. “This clean-air service will help to improve air quality while providing direct access to the Metrolink system for tens of thousands of additional riders in one of the fastest-growing population and economic centers in the nation.”

The Arrow line will eventually be the home of the first hydrogen fuel-cell powered passenger trainset in the U.S. That equipment recently premiered at the InnoTrans trade fair in Berlin and will undergo extensive testing in Europe before its delivery to the U.S. [see “Stadler unveils first hydrogen train for U.S. …,” Trains News Wire, Sept. 21, 2022].
