DALLAS — Carlos Aguilar is leaving Texas Central Railway — the proposed Dallas-Houston high speed rail line — after six years as CEO.

In a statement issued via LinkedIn, Aguilar did not indicate a reason for departure or future plans, but said he was “immensely proud” of the company’s achievements, “including end to end regulatory approvals for the first true high-speed rail project in our nation’s history” and the ability to attract “the best companies in the high speed rail industry worldwide to compete for key roles on this marquee project.”

The Texas Central effort has been stalled by a number of lawsuits from property owners and opposition from the group Texans Against High-Speed Rail, and earlier this year was reported to owe more than $600,000 in property taxes. A case regarding the project’s ability to acquire land through eminent domain is pending before the Texas Supreme Court.

“While I could not align our current stakeholders on a common vision for a path forward,” Aguilar wrote in his statement, “I wish the project the greatest success and remain convinced of the importance of this venture for the safety and prosperity of ALL Texans.”
