FORT WORTH, Texas — Transit agency Trinity Metro has ordered four more FLIRT diesel multiple-unit trainsets for its TEXRail commuter rail service, Stadler announced.

Delivery is expected in 2027. The new equipment will join the existing fleet of eight FLIRT (Fast Light Intercity and Regional Train) trainsets in operation since 2019 on the 27.2-mile, nine-station TEXRail line between downtown Fort Worth and DFW International Airport. The purchase comes as TEXRail doubles the frequency of its midday service, operating trains at 30-minute intervals and plans a 2.1-mile extension into Fort Worth’s Medical District

“Demand for TEXRail continues to rise, and these new train sets will enable us to maintain high service standards while accommodating more riders,” Reed Lanham, vice president of rail for Trinity Metro, said in a press release. “With the recent service enhancements and the upcoming extension to the Medical District, we’re focused on providing an exceptional experience for our customers.”

Stadler US CEO Martin Ritter said the original TEXRail order “was the first project Stadler US got to assemble on U.S. soil from start to finish. We’re honored that Trinity Metro has placed their trust in us once again to expand their current fleet of Stadler vehicles even further.

  1. There are many, smaller commuter agencies around the US that need to take a long, hard look at these and calculate the savings in fuel and maintenance.
