ROCKWOOD, Maine — Three crew members were reported to have suffered minor injuries after a CPKC freight train derailed and caught fire early today (Saturday, April 15) apparently as a result of a track washout, Reuters reports.

Maine’s Forest Service said three locomotives and six railcars carrying lumber and electrical wiring derailed north of Rockwood, causing a small forest fire. Other cars on the train were reportedly carrying hazardous materials but did not derail and posed no risk, according to the report.

The derailment occurred about 8:30 a.m. The Forest Service, Maine Department of Environmental Protection, and local emergency services responded.

Rockwood is about 90 miles northwest of Bangor, Maine.
