IRVING, Texas — The Trinity Railway Express fleet of F59PHs has begun returning to the Dallas-area commuter agency following upgrades at shops in Iowa and Pennsylvania. The units, jointly owned by Dallas Area Rapid Transit and the Fort Worth Transportation Authority, are being overhauled to meet Environmental Protection Agency Tier 2 standards.

The entire seven-unit fleet is receiving the upgrades. Norfolk Southern’s Altoona, Pa., shop and RELCO Locomotive’s Albia, Iowa, facility are performing the work. NS has so far completed Nos. 120, 121, and 122, while RELCO has completed Nos. 123 and 126. The rest of the fleet will be completed by next year.

The F59PHs work in push-pull service with bilevel commuter cars between Dallas and Fort Worth, Texas. Trinity Railway Express also operates 13 Budd-built Rail Diesel Cars.
