FRIEDENS, Pa. — A truck driver whose vehicle struck and derailed a CSX train at a grade crossing has been cited by Pennsylvania state police for his role in March 10 accident.
Bradley Mahan, 43, of Johnstown, Pa., was charged with driving at an unsafe speed, the Somerset Daily American reports. The accident report says he “failed to clearly observe [the train] traveling in his direction.”
Mahan and the train’s two crew members were injured in the collision, which caused the three-axle dump truck to catch fire and derailed the train’s two locomotives and four tank cars [see “Three injured as CSX train derailed …,” Trains News Wire, March 11, 2025].
One of the derailed locomotives remains at the scene without its trucks, waiting to be removed from the scene, the newspaper reports.
Also loose his CDL for some time.
Poor insurance company. They will probably cancel him after the settlement if they haven’t already.
Should he also be held responsible for reimbursing the railroad for the costs of the accident?
