Caleb Finley, 18, and Jimmy Johnson, 20, were arrested for criminal damage to property, criminal trespass to property, reckless conduct, and placing an object on railroad tracks, the Sheriff’s Office said in a press release. The incident occurred just outside of Bartonville. Investigators said they determined the two had moved a derailing device, then watched the train’s locomotive derail when it passed over the device. No one was injured. The locomotive’s engineer saw the two men near the derail and called Bartonville police, who found them walking near the scene and called the sheriff’s office.

A crane was needed to rerail the locomotive. Damage was estimated at more than $80,000.

Bartonville is approximately 5 miles southwest of downtown Peoria.
