Unifor Local 101R represents more than 1,200 mechanics, laborers, diesel service attendants, and mechanical support workers. The ratification vote was announced Monday, Feb. 24; no details on the vote were released.

“Our members worked so hard and stood together to reach this collective agreement in difficult and uncertain economic times,” Unifor National President Lana Payne said in a press release. “Together, we achieved important gains in work ownership protections, improved working conditions and greater job security for our members.”

The tentative agreement was announced in late January [see “CPKC and Unifor reach …,” Trains News Wire, Jan. 27, 2025].

“This agreement, ratified with strong support among our mechanical employees, brings long-term labor stability to our railroaders as we continue to safely and efficiently serve our customers moving the Canadian and North American economies,” CPKC CEO Keith Creel said in a press release.

The agreement is the second to be ratified this year by CPKC workers in Canada; the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference Maintenance of Way Employees Division approved a deal earlier this month [see “Maintenance-of-way union ratifies …,” News Wire, Feb. 15, 2025].
