NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Union Pacific has announced the release of a locomotive recognizing its Employee Assistance Program and four other employee-focused programs.
The railroad announced last week that SD70ACe No. 8388 “went into service earlier this year” on its network following work at UP’s Jenks Locomotive Shop in North Little Rock.
The locomotive carries emblems recognizing five programs:
— The Employee Assistance Program, which provides confidential support to employees and family members facing problems related to mental health, substance abuse, work-life balance, and workplace challenges.
— The Friend to Friend Network, a nonprofit run by UP employee volunteers and retirees, providing financial aid to railroads and their families hit by health or home-related hardships. Last year, it directed more than $840,000 in aid to 1,400 families.
— Operation RedBlock, which uses trained peer mentors to help co-workers address issues leading to substance abuse, educate them on rules and regulations, and prevent them from working under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
— Peer Support, in which trained employees offer confidential advice and guidance to colleagues, providing support from those with an understanding of the rail industry.
— Union Pacific Employee Clubs, which offer employees and retirees the opportunity to participate in community service and charity activities.
“The locomotive is a great way to raise awareness about the resources available to our employees when life throws us curve balls,” Dana Swanson, senior director-System Locomotive Facility, said in an article on the UP website. “We all need help and support at times.”
