UP maintenance worker killed in Texas explosion

Union Pacific logo without sloganSPRING, Texas — A Union Pacific worker was killed Saturday in an explosion during track work in Spring, Texas, KPRC-TV reports.

The Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office told the station the accident occurred about 9 a.m. Two workers were welding when gas was ignited, causing an explosion. One worker was taken to an area hospital, where he later died; the other was uninjured. No other information was immediately available.

Harris County Fire, the Spring Fire Department, and Union Pacific are investigating.
