VIA Rail Canada logoMONTREAL — For a second straight day, VIA Rail Canada has canceled all scheduled corridor service on its Toronto-Ottawa and Toronto-Montreal routes.

An advisory on the VIA web page lists 29 trains as canceled today (Monday, Dec. 26) because of the “ongoing impact of the CN train derailment which occurred on Dec. 24.”

The Toronto Star reports that 14 cars of a CN train derailed in Grafton, Ontario, shortly after 11 a.m. on Saturday. That derailment led to the cancellation of all 25 corridor trains scheduled to operate Sunday [see “VIA Rail Canada cancels …,” Trains News Wire, Dec. 24, 2022]

VIA advises customers to watch its website for updates on the resumption of operations.

  1. How much VIA RAIL Canada is there left? System is shrinking.. Even stuff I rode late (Quebec-Montreal via CP Budd car) is gone. The Demise of the branches in the Maritimes was expected and I did ride The Atlantic Montreal-Halifax in 1981 Lower eastbound and Upper westbound.
