WASHINGTON — Virginia Railway Express service disruptions will continue into a third day following Tuesday’s Amtrak derailment at Washington Union Station, as commuter operator announced it will run an “S” schedule on Thursday.
The S schedule denotes holidays, weather issues, or other service disruptions. It means just four round trips, instead of the usual eight, will operate on both the Fredericksburg and Manassas lines. Those schedules are available here.
An Amtrak derailment Tuesday morning in the tunnel into Union Station from the south has kept VRE from moving its equipment out of a layover yard north of the station [see “Minor Amtrak derailment disrupts service …,” Trains News Wire, July 11, 2023]. At least some of the station access issues appears to have been addressed, since the VRE trains running on Thursday will terminate or originate at Union Station instead of L’Enfant.
Can’t Trains block this auto generated garbage, I have to Pay for this SPAM?????
I don’t understand it. For operation out of L’Enfant Plaza, it’s no more than a 15 mile detour via Anacostia and the freight line. One CSX crew could have moved the VRE Fleet to the South side of the tunnel.
Now that they’re running from Wash Union, that must mean one track is open in the tunnel with limited capacity.
An understandable situation.
