WASHINGTON — Weekly U.S. rail traffic was up for the second week in a row, according to the latest statistics from the Association of American Railroads.
Overall traffic for the week ending Nov. 18 included 501,416 carloads and intermodal units, a 4% increase from the same week a year ago. That includes 237,416 carloads, up 3.8%, and 264,000 containers and trailers, up 4.1%.
Year-to-date traffic, through 46 weeks of 2023, includes a 0.2% increase in carload traffic and 6.5% drop in intermodal volume, for an overall derease of 3.4%.
North American totals for the week ending Nov. 18 include 351,368 carloads, up 3.8% over the corresponding week in 2022, and 343,001 intermodal units, up 1.7%l. The total volume of 694,369 carloads and intermodal units is a 2.85 increase. Overall North American volume through 46 weeks is down 3.1% compared to the same week in 2022.
