Dallas-Fort Worth rail transit to see service reductions as winter storm arrives
Transit in the Dallas-Fort Worth area will operate on limited schedules Monday, with some changes beginning Sunday, because of a winter storm forecast calling for significant snowfall. The agencies involved have announced these plans:
— Dallas Area Rapid Transit plans to limit light rail and bus operations Sunday night through Monday because of a winter storm warning including a forecast for significant snowfall. Beginning at 11 p.m. Sunday, through 11:59 p.m. Monday, DART light rail will operate within the boundaries of the LBJ loop using a combination of rail and shuttle buses, and the Dallas streetcar will not operate. Stations outside the loop will be connected to the operating portion of the rail system. On Monday, buses will operate on a Saturday schedule.
— Trinity Metro, the Fort Worth area’s transit agency, will reduce TEXRail service to an hourly schedule on Sunday and Monday. Bus service will operate on a modified schedule on Sunday.
— Trinity Railway Express, the Dallas-Fort Worth commuter railroad jointly operated by DART and Trinity Metro, will operate on a Saturday schedule.
Houston Metro to suspend rail, bus operations Monday and Tuesday
Houston Metro will suspend all light rail and bus operations Monday and Tuesday because of hazardous conditions from expected freezing weather. In a press release, the agency says service will resume “only when it is safe to do so, and this may be a gradual return based on weather conditions.” Riders are advised to follow the agency’s Twitter and Facebook pages for updated information.
South Shore Line to sub buses for trains to, from South Bend
For the second consecutive weekend, buses will substitute for South Shore Line commuter trains on the easternmost part of the system because of expected extreme cold weather. Beginning Saturday evening, buses will run between the South Bend, Ind., airport and the Carroll Avenue station in Michigan City, Ind., with no service provided at the Hudson Lake station. The bus substitution will continue Sunday. Details are available at the South Shore website.
