One of the most famous steam locomotives in America is returning to steam. Southern Railway 2-8-2 No. 4501 has emerged from Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum’s Soule Shops after an extensive overhaul. The 1911 Baldwin Mikado is ready for a new career on the point of Norfolk Southern 21st Century Steam excursions starting in 2015. Before she runs on the main line, the locomotive will make test runs on the museum’s railroad in Chattanooga. Join us for this historic event. Sept. 4-7.

Watch as Southern Railway 2-8-2 No. 4501 begins its new life on the point of Norfolk Southern 21st Century Steam excursions.
I don't know which is a more elegant engine, SR 4501, or SP 4449?
The original camera position showing both rails was better, just missed viewing 4501 doing a turn around on the ''Y''.

Having fired 4501 many times in it's previous life, on a couple occasions by myself (only wimps need a stoker), it is great to see it back in action and in it's real black colors.
