The museum is home to the largest collection of Pacific Northwest railroad equipment with over 70 pieces on hand, many on display at the museum’s Railway History Campus and Train Shed Exhibit Hall in Snoqualmie. Seasonal steam and diesel train rides are operated to North Bend and Snoqualmie Falls.
Choices
Visitors can ride a train of heavyweight passenger cars, visit the Railway History Campus and exhibit hall, and the historic Snoqualmie depot. While most excursions are powered by a historic diesel locomotive, on select dates the museum’s restored Northern Pacific No. 924, an 1899, 0-6-0 steam locomotive will lead the train.
When to go
The Snoqualmie Depot is open year-round except for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day. Excursions are operated on most weekends April through October. Special events such as Thomas the Tank Engine and Santa Trains take place on select dates.
Good to know
The museum’s Queen Anne-style depot in Snoqualmie was completed in 1890. Now fully restored, the building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Worth doing
Snoqualmie Falls, a 270-foot-high waterfall, is a short five-minute drive and features a free observation area that is open from dawn to dusk.
Don’t miss
The museum is home to several significant pieces of rolling stock including a rare chapel car The Messenger of Peace, a 24-foot-long caboose made of recycled materials during World War II, and a 1926 articulated 2-6-6-2 steam locomotive.
Getting there
The museum is 30 miles east of Seattle on Interstate 90. From I-90 East, take Exit 25. Heading north, follow Snoqualmie Ridge Parkway for approximately 4 miles to Highway 202. Turn right on Highway 202 and proceed a half mile to the Snoqualmie depot on your right. To get to the North Bend depot, take Exit 31 off I-90. Follow Bendigo Street into North Bend and turn right on North Bend Way.
