It’s easy enough to identify reporting marks for Class I railroads, as well as a multitude of short lines and regionals, but the reporting marks on coal cars? That’s a little trickier. Until now.

Here is a list of utilities and merchant generators with coal cars listed in the October 2009 Official Railway Equipment Register, the types of cars they own, and how many of each type.
