Q: After 150th Golden Spike excursion, will there be other chances to ride the Big Boy 4014? — Daniel Miltenberger, Jacksonville, Fla.

A: Union Pacific’s steam program posts a schedule for locomotive runs on the Internet.

Besides the May 8 excursion behind Big Boy 4-8-8-4 No. 4014 in Utah, the locomotive is expected to haul an excursion benefiting the Union Pacific Museum on July 15. The steam crew is also expected to put the giant locomotive to work again Oct. 12 and 13 in Southern California to benefit the Rail Giants museum of Pomona, Calif., which traded the locomotive back to the railroad in 2014.

The railroad has yet to announce other scheduled runs. — Trains staff
