A “Breakheart Pass” was filmed on the Camas Prairie Railroad, a short line in Northern Idaho. Originally a cooperative building effort by predecessors of the Union Pacific and the BNSF in the early 20th century, as of 2004, remnants of the Camas Prairie are operated as the 77-mile Great Northwest Railroad by Watco Cos. of Pittsburg, Kan. According to the Internet movie site IMDB.com, the Idaho filming locations were a substitute for Nevada in the original Alistair MacLean novel. Baldwin Locomotive Works built the 2-8-0 Consolidated in 1907. No. 75 worked on the Great Western Railway out of Loveland, Colo., and has been in other movies. Heber Valley Railroad in Utah is restoring it to run again.
