A You likely saw a ballast hopper or a flatcar owned by one of three Herzog companies: Herzog Transit Services, Irving, Texas; Herzog Railroad Services, or Herzog Contracting Corp., both of St. Joseph, Mo. Herzog is well-known in the rail industry. Those companies’ equipment is often seen in ballast projects, new track construction, and diamond-crossing repair.
