Special guests can include editors and contributors from Model RailroaderTrainsClassic Toy TrainsGarden Railways and Trains.com.

Questions can be about any railroad or model railroading topic, including on the fan configuration on an SD45. These can include questions about railroad operating practices, railroad lantern manufacturer details, model locomotive details, and toy train transformers, among others.

Trains.com and Model Railroader Senior Editor Cody Grivno works through many of these questions, which are posted twice a week, each week, all year! See all our answers to questions online!

  1. New Subject: Do railroads still install self-guarding frogs, or are the ones still in use just frogs that were installed long ago? Presumably these were only used in yards and non-main spurs. Details West makes some nice cast ones.

  2. From time to time, and this is one of those times, I’ve been unable to watch your videos on my iPad. I click “Watch Video” and it looks like it’s loading, but all I see is the circle of death and a black screen, which never comes back to me. This has also happened with this month’s Sand Creek video.

  3. Now that you have moved, what layout will you use to test models of 6-axle road diesels? Switching layouts just don’t seem appropriate.

  4. Why did Trains.com stop indexing the videos? Was nice skipping an irrelevant segment or return an easily find a segment to rewatch.

  5. In Arizona where new UP track work is in place I have seen stencils for what it is. For people that do not live in Arizona you can use google maps to see those stencils. I do believe I have also seen the No Trespassing stencils too. Just do not fully recall the location.
