The Atlas General Electric U28C and U28CG diesels recently arrived in hobby shops. Join Model Railroader editor Eric White and senior editor Cody Grivno as they talk about the features on these newly tooled HO scale six-axle diesels and then operate an Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe passenger train with the U28CG on our Milwaukee, Racine & Troy staff layout.

The U28C is decorated for Conrail, Louisville & Nashville, Pennsylvania RR, Southern Pacific, and Union Pacific in three road numbers per paint scheme. The model is also available undecorated (with and without nose headlight). Atlas offers the U28CG lettered for Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe (red-and-silver warbonnet and yellowbonnet, three numbers each).

Features on the Atlas General Electric U28C and U28CG diesels include an injection-molded plastic body, die-cast metal chassis, etched-metal grills, steam generator details (U28CG only), railroad-specific details, and factory-installed and painted crew figures.

Direct-current models with a 21-pin plug for a Digital Command Control decoder and a factory-installed speaker are priced at $189.95. Versions with a dual-mode ESU LokSound sound decoder sell for $299.95.
