The Atlas N scale SD60E diesel locomotive is now available in the company’s Master Line. In this video, Model Railroader Senior Editor Cody Grivno shares a brief history of the prototype diesels, rebuilt by Norfolk Southern at its Juniata Locomotive Shop in Altoona, Pa.; points out the various freestanding and molded detail parts; and demonstrates the sound and light functions on our sample, which is equipped with an ESU LokSound V5 decoder. Then watch the six-axle locomotive in action on our new Colorado Plains T-Trak layout.

In addition to the as-built Norfolk Southern Thoroughbred scheme (two road numbers), the Atlas N scale SD60E is painted in the railroad’s GORail, Honoring Our First Responders, and Honoring Our Veterans schemes in one number each. An undecorated model is also available.

Features on the N scale SD60E include an injection-molded plastic body; split, die-cast metal mechanism; and a Scale Speed motor with dual flywheels. The Crescent cab has factory-installed and painted wire grab irons, a Positive Train Control antenna array on the roof, and clear window glazing. Additional details on the six-axle unit include front and rear ditch lights, a Nathan K5LAR24 air horn, a freestanding snow plow on the front pilot, and body-mounted Accumate couplers.

Direct-current models with a factory-installed speaker have a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $149.95. Versions with an ESU LokSound V5 sound decoder sell for $259.95.
